8 Knitwear Inspired Pieces to Brighten up your Living Space

I’ve been daydreaming about decorating our tiny 550 square foot apartment lately. Right now, it’s filled with unpacked boxes and half assembled Ikea furniture, as I debate how best to give this space a “minimalistic” feel. It’s a bit of a challenge with my many boxes of yarn. In our last space, we had the luxury of having an entire wall of shelving – which I delightedly took advantage of by displaying my skeins and skeins of yarn, along with my ever growing collection of books. In this latest space however, we are somewhat limited on shelving. I can’t help but browse Pinterest for inspiration – take a look at some of my favorites!

1 – Macramé Diamond Wall Hanging by Rianne Zuijderduin

This DIY article shows you how to make a simple but elegant wall hanging for your space. I have yet to try macramé, but excelled at making hemp jewelry when I was younger, and seeing as it uses the same type of knots, figure it wouldn’t be too hard a hobby to pick up!

2. Knitted Stools by Claire Anne O’ Brien

I don’t know if it’s possible to be more in love with these stools than I am! They are so beautifully unique, and look like the comfiest stools ever to sit on. if someone makes a knitting pattern for these, please let me know!

3. Cable Knit Chair Cover by Ruth Anne Cross

A pattern for this lovely cable knit chair cover is available from Ruth Anne Cross’s knitting book The Knitted Home.

It’s stunning, but I’m probably better off finishing off a couple of sweaters still on my “to-knit” list before attempting this project.

Everything about this photo makes me swoon. The tutorial is in Finnish, but it’s so well photographed that I’m fairly certain that with enough motivation you could figure this out on your own.

What do you think of these amazing creations? If you want to make one yourself, you could get this book filled with incredibly lifelike patterns (in crochet) or go for a more easy diy version (using knitting) with a kit from Sincerely Louise on Etsy.

7. Mud Cloth Crochet Pillow by Make & Do Crew

I love the uniqueness of this pillow! Check out this free pattern to learn how to recreate this look for your own pillow cases.

8. DIY Macrame Plant Hanger by Farmhouse on Boone

If you love the look of macrame but don’t want to take the time to learn yet another crafty skill, this diy tutorial is for you. It mimics the look of macrame, but is actually just knots and a simple three strand braid used to create some cute plant hangers! There is even a video tutorial to show you how its done. A great project for those of us who are short on time but still want to make something crafty. 😉
