5 Gorgeous Tops to Knit this Summer

In honor of the first few days of summer (at least for those of you in the Northern hemisphere), I’ve put together a compilation of some of the most gorgeous summer knitting patterns I’ve found this week.

Yes, I know it’s hot outside. So grab a lawn chair, whip up a mojito, and rummage through your yarn stash. Reach for those cottons and linens, brush up your lace skills, and knit something light and airy that will be an absolute dream to wear for those cool summer nights.

Balta is a beautifully knit top with a lace neckline originally published in the Shetland Trader: Book 2 by Gudrun Johnston. The back of the pattern features a keyhole to add a tad of sultriness. It’s knit with Sparrow by Quince & Co., an organic linen spun in Italy.

2. Amalia by Quince and Co.

Amalia is an elegant and simple pattern knit in garter stitch and featuring a graceful hem. It’s a versatile top that could be easily worn as a casual summer top with pleated shorts and flip flops during the day or paired with well fitted trousers and high heels to transform it into a classier top for girl’s night out. Similar to Balta, it’s also knit with Sparrow, a fingering yarn that’s 100% linen.

3. Folded Lace Tank by Bristol Ivy

The Folded Lace Tank pattern originally appeared in the Spring/Summer 2014 issue of Knit.Wear, published by Interweave Knits. It has a modern feel to it, with a delicate lace and pleated pattern along the side. It would look great paired with dark skinny jeans or some well fitted trousers.

4. Heliconia Wrap by Norika Ho

The Heliconia Wrap is a more recent pattern published in the 2016 summer edition of Knitscene. This wrap was made for layering over a bikini when you need some extra coverage at the beach. It could also look great when worn with a brightly colored summer dress. It’s knit in a luxurious yarn from the Fibre Company, consisting of 40% merino, 25% llama, 20% silk and 15% linen.

4. CineCitta by La Maison Rililie

If I had to choose just one summer top to knit out of all these four, I would have to make it the CineCitta top by La Maison Rililie. I love the detail on the sleeves and the beautiful color variation in the yarn. Also, it’s good to note that this pattern has an average rating of 4.9 of 58 votes on Ravelry, a sure sign that it’s a well thought out design.
